Volume Four (not written yet)
Volume four is titled In Whom I Have Trusted. Grace In Recovery. And considers keys to opening the windows of heaven on behalf of recovery. How we qualify or disqualify ourselves for strengthening and transforming grace is considered. The nature, form, and (principled) limits of grace are considered. Apparently, the Spirit will “strive” with us, but will not press itself against the determined expression of our agency, manifest in our desires, thoughts, and actions.
Nevertheless, gifts of grace—including harrowing, buffering, and striving—play a critical role in the resurrection of moral feeling and the restoration of agency. Indeed, recovery from addiction always involves a second endowment, or renewed endowment, of agency, by a loving, compassionate Deity. The Atonement of Jesus Christ justifies this compassionate divine condescension and unmerited mercy, “after all we can do” (2 Nephi 25:23).
